Stuff That Matters

September 16, 2017

In December of 2008, I began a women’s Bible study at my church. I named it,
Rock Steady Sisters. Essentially, the name represents the desires of my heart and of
those who would care to join me in my Bible journey. Rock, representing
the Triune God  known to us by way of His Word; Steady, in that He never changes
and can be fully trusted in all things in our lives; Sisters in that we are a family in
the body of Christ. No strangers, ever. Three beautiful words that bring us all
together for a common goal: seekers of God, stable through life circumstances and
connected in the family of God.

Through the years there's never been an age restriction because there's none of that when it comes to God stuff.  We're all the same according to Him.  And so, because of that we've enjoyed this wonderful span of life from twenty something to ninety something.  How beautiful for the younger to love the older and the older to love the younger.  Recently that truth was brought to my attention while I was waiting to begin my first study at this facility - Canyon Villa Retirement Home.  Our group had made the unanimous decision to take Rock Steady Sisters to one of our own the first Tuesday of every month, Ms. Elaine. She is the ninety something.  No longer able to travel to class on Tuesdays, class decided to travel to her and the bonus was, Ms. Ruth.  You'll see her seated in the chair to the left in the above image.  She is 102 and a lover of Jesus Christ, as well.  As I sat on the back row of this little library on the second floor, I spotted the scene captured above.  The animated expression of one of our "middle something gals" excited to share her new found Biblical truths to Ms. Elaine and Ms. Ruth - veteran soldiers of the Cross, prompted the picture.  They were eager to hear her every word - like a mother to a young child -  and I am sure, she was preachin' to the choir.

There's a beautiful passage found in the Old Testament.  There it is, tucked in the last few verses before the end of the entire thirty-nine Books.  Malachi 3:16-18 "Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another.  The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed His name.  They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.  Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him."

It may be easy to think that certain things that you do or say in “His name” are
insignificant. But mark it down my Friend, “And no creature is hidden from His

sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give
account.”
Hebrews 3:13. Nothing is hidden from God and when He sees
something precious, like three of His daughters coming together to talk about how
wonderful He is, He (as my dad says) says this, “Recording angels?! Mark this
down!”

Someday, we’re all going to have to stand in front of The Lord of Hosts, Jesus
Christ, The Savior, The King of Kings. Whether you now Him or not, you will
stand before Him. And, I don’t know about you, but I sure do want to stand there
and have Him read a list of things that included the stuff that the recording angels
had to write down. Because in the end, that’s the kind of stuff that will matter.
Nothing else.
